GoalsHighly Leveraged Research
The CITeR Research Portfolio will span an extensive set of topics. Center Members pay yearly membership dues that provides each with voting privileges on the Advisory Board and thereby direct influence in the selection of projects being funded from the membership fee pool. Project results are shared among the membership at semiannual meetings – effectively, the CITeR members pay for the cost of one research program but reap the benefits of many. Understanding the importance of the Industry-university relationship, all university overhead is returned to the research activity for its use. Members often find expertise within the Center that allows them to focus on specific research and development needs. As a result, many companies fund separate sponsored research on proprietary projects for which they alone receive the research results.
Education
Center member dues will contribute directly to the support of member driven masters and doctorate level research projects. In addition, the Center will work to develop support for an undergraduate research fellowship program in which bachelors level students will work on projects through summer internships and senior capstone projects. Students will work on research projects of interest to the membership. CITeR will also sponsor Seminar Series for the university community in the area of biometrics. Opportunities for collaboration and co-sponsorship of external conferences and workshops will be explored as appropriate with professional societies, industry organizations, and consortia consistent with Advisory Board recommendations.
Knowledge Transfer
The results of the center’s highly leveraged research are formally disseminated to members at twice yearly meetings. Informally, transfer is continuous over the course of a project for members serving as Project Monitors. Once established, CITeR will also establish an e-mail and web-based newsletter for members. Access to the student researchers as potential future employees represents perhaps the most important long term means of knowledge transfer. | |
